Building Urban Culture Part II

Street Culture Vol 1.0

This feature blog covers a combination of imaginative graffiti and a pop-up art exhibition.

At the start of 2024, there has been a positive impact on mixed media art from public spaces. Large-scale graffiti pieces have been emphasised, as well as a low-key art exhibition that spotlights local artists in Derby through music, clothing, and fine art. Both unique experiences have showcased the different ranges of art that can positively impact a community and public spaces, bringing people together to enjoy being creative and viewing creatives' work.

The Love and Starfish Art Gallery

The Love and Starfish Art Gallery is located at Sadler Gate in Derby. It's a confined space filled with an abundance of art pieces. We've been lucky enough to experience this art gallery right on our doorstep.

Zah Zah and Friends

We started the year energised with the 'Zah Zah and Friends' second art exhibition at this spot. 'Zah Zah Binks' is a small artist who's successfully thriving through his unique take on art, which stands out from the norm. From eye-catching art to big smiles and hearty laughs, this exhibition was immersed with positive vibes and passion from all artists and the public.

We've seen mixed art created by numerous artists such as Zah Zah Banks, Syahl, and Scarce, who have an individual take on their art pieces. If you're inspired by the glimpse of art captured in this blog, we recommend checking out their social links.

Why BUC would recommend small local art exhibitions

Whether you attend as a bystander, have an interest in art, or are an artist, you can’t deny the interesting people you connect with and the exposure to brilliant art and conversations. The event captured a positive community supporting one another and provided the opportunity to discover new artists and meet interesting people. We will attend again and hope you can too if you are local.

Read onto BUC Part III for our intake on the infamous ‘The Custard Factory’ in the heart of Birmingham. If you’re into street art (Graffiti), good vibes, and supporting local pop-up stores, this one is for you.
